Dental implants are one of the main reasons UK patients look at Istanbul. Unlike veneers, implants are not a one-trip treatment in most cases, and understanding the stages helps you plan. This New City Clinic guide explains them.
Two visits, several months apart
On the first visit the titanium implant is placed under local anaesthesia after an examination and 3D scan, with a temporary tooth where needed. The bone then needs three to six months to bond with the implant. On the second visit the permanent crown or bridge is fitted.
All-on-4 and All-on-6
For a jaw with no teeth, a fixed bridge can be attached to four to six implants. Where bone has shrunk, a bone graft or sinus lift may be needed first. Ask which implant brand is used and for the implant passport, so your UK dentist can maintain it.
What to check before booking
Ask for the name of the hospital and check that it is licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Health, the full name and specialty of the doctor, and a written quote that lists hospital, doctor, tests, nights in hospital and hotel, transfers and interpreter. Be cautious with offers that cannot name the hospital, promise guaranteed results or ask for a deposit before a physician has seen your case.
Travelling from the UK
Direct flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and other UK airports take around four hours. Plan about 3–5 days on the first visit and about a week on the second in Istanbul so that your doctor can check you before the flight. You receive your reports in English for your GP, and a New City Clinic coordinator follows your recovery remotely once you are home.
