A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth and is the closest thing to a natural tooth dentistry offers. It is not a one-trip treatment in most cases, and understanding the stages helps you plan. In this guide New City Clinic explains the timeline.
The two visits
On the first visit, after an examination and 3D imaging, the titanium implant is placed in the jawbone under local anaesthesia, and a temporary tooth can be provided where needed. This visit usually takes 3–5 days. The bone then needs about three to six months to bond with the implant. On the second visit, lasting around a week, impressions are taken and the permanent crown or bridge is fitted.
Who is suitable?
Implants need enough healthy bone and healthy gums. Where bone has shrunk after a tooth was lost, a bone graft or sinus lift may be required, which adds healing time. Uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking and untreated gum disease reduce success rates and must be addressed first. For a jaw with no teeth, fixed bridges on four to six implants, often called All-on-4 or All-on-6, are an option.
Materials and long-term care
Ask which implant brand will be used and for the implant passport, so that any dentist can maintain it later. Crowns are usually made of zirconia or porcelain fused to metal. Implants cannot decay, but the gum around them can become inflamed just as around a natural tooth. Daily cleaning, including between the teeth, and check-ups every six months are what make implants last.
Dental implants: cost in Turkey and what is included
The price depends on the technique, the extent of the procedure, the hospital, the length of stay and any procedures planned together, which is why a single figure quoted without an examination or photo assessment is misleading. After a physician has reviewed your case, New City Clinic sends you an itemised written quote. It lists hospital, surgeon and anaesthesia fees, pre-operative tests, medication, any compression garment or support bra, accommodation, airport–hotel–hospital transfers and interpreting separately; flights are not included unless stated. When comparing clinics in Istanbul, look beyond the price: check that the hospital is licensed by the Ministry of Health, what the surgeon specialises in, and how follow-up is handled once you are back home.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get implants and teeth in one trip?
Sometimes a fixed temporary bridge is fitted straight away, but the permanent teeth are made after healing. Your dentist tells you what is possible after the scan.
Is implant surgery painful?
It is done under local anaesthesia. Soreness and swelling afterwards are usually mild and settle within a few days.
How long do implants last?
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups they can last for decades. The crown on top may need replacing sooner.
