Dental Treatment in Turkey from the USA and Canada: Implants, Crowns and Veneers

Implants, full-arch teeth, zirconium and porcelain crowns, veneers and smile design in Istanbul for patients from the United States and Canada, with the trip planned around the healing time. New City Clinic is a health-tourism organisation authorised by the Turkish Ministry of Health and registered with HealthTürkiye. We arrange your dental treatment at authorised dental healthcare institutions in Istanbul, where their dentists treat you; New City Clinic organises and coordinates, and does not treat patients itself.

Planning dental treatment from North America

When the journey to Istanbul is long, the shape of the plan matters as much as the treatment itself. Implants usually mean two trips several months apart, while veneers and crowns are usually done in one stay. Knowing this before you book, and having the plan, the number of visits and the quote in writing, avoids surprises. A dentist reviews your X-rays and photos first and tells you which teeth genuinely need treatment.

Dental implants: two trips and months of healing

An implant is a titanium post placed in the jawbone as an artificial root and later finished with a crown. It usually needs three to six months to fuse with the bone before the final crown or bridge is fitted. The first stay, about 3–5 days, covers the examination, 3D scan and placement; the second stay of a few days is for the final teeth. A temporary tooth can often be worn in between. Bone grafting or a sinus lift can lengthen the timeline, which is worth knowing before you book flights.

Full-arch teeth on a reduced number of implants

If most or all teeth in a jaw are missing or failing, a fixed full-arch prosthesis can be planned on a reduced number of implants. Suitability depends on your bone, gums, bite and general health; the dentist decides how many implants are needed after the 3D scan. The final full-arch teeth are fitted on the second visit, once the implants have healed.

Zirconium and porcelain crowns, laminate veneers

A laminate veneer is a thin porcelain shell bonded to the front of the tooth with little preparation; a crown covers the whole tooth and needs it to be reduced on all sides. Tooth preparation cannot be undone, so healthy teeth should not be filed down unnecessarily; crowns are meant for teeth that are broken, heavily filled, root-treated or weakened. Zirconium and porcelain are common materials, chosen according to strength and appearance.

Smile design

Smile design brings the colour, shape and alignment of your teeth into harmony with your face, lips and gums, using veneers, crowns, whitening or gum contouring as needed. The design is prepared digitally and tried in your mouth as temporary teeth; the permanent teeth are made only after your approval. Gum disease and decay are treated first.

What to send for a first opinion

Send clear photos of your smile from the front and both sides, your teeth closed and open, and the upper and lower teeth from above and below. If you have one, add a panoramic X-ray (an OPG) taken in the last twelve months; a 3D scan (CBCT) is welcome but not required, as it can be taken in Istanbul. Mention any previous crowns, implants, root canals or gum treatment, your medical conditions and medication (especially blood thinners or bone medication), and whether you smoke.

Days in Istanbul and the flight home

Plan about 5–7 days for veneers, crowns or smile design, and about 3–5 days for each implant visit. Sensitivity to hot and cold in the first days is common. Fly home only after your final check and bite adjustment. Tell your dentist at home about your plans and bring back the written record of the treatment and materials so they can maintain your work at regular check-ups. Check whether you need a visa or e-visa for your passport on the official website evisa.gov.tr. Once your treatment is planned, the clinic confirms your appointment in writing.

What the package includes, the quote and insurance

The package normally includes the dental examination and the scans in your plan, the treatment set out in your written plan, temporary teeth where needed, hotel accommodation, airport–hotel–clinic transfers and a coordinator. Flights are never included. There is no listed price for dental treatment: the quote depends on how many teeth are treated, which treatment each tooth needs, the materials and whether bone grafting is required, so it is written tooth by tooth after the dentist has reviewed your X-rays and photos. Quotes are written in euros. US and Canadian dental plans and insurers usually do not cover treatment abroad; ask your insurer before you book. Dental treatment is carried out at authorised dental healthcare institutions licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Health, such as oral and dental health centres and hospital dental departments; one example is the dental hospital department on the Medipol Mega University Hospital campus in Bağcılar, Istanbul. The institution and the dentist who treats you are named in your written plan before you travel.

How to start

Send your photos, panoramic X-ray if you have one, and your questions on WhatsApp. A dentist reviews them free of charge and you receive a written plan with each tooth and the number of visits. A coordinator then arranges your dates, hotel and transfers, and stays in touch after you are home.

FAQ

How do I choose a dentist or clinic in Istanbul?+

Check facts, not promises. A short checklist: 1) the institution is authorised by the Turkish Ministry of Health and the intermediary is authorised for health tourism; 2) you know the name of the dentist who will treat you before you travel; 3) your X-rays or a 3D scan are reviewed before a plan is made; 4) the written plan lists each tooth, what will be done and why, and whether any healthy tooth will be prepared; 5) you see a trial smile before any permanent work; 6) gum disease or decay is treated first; 7) the quote states what is included and what is not; 8) you take home a written record of the treatment and materials. Be cautious if someone offers a full set of crowns without seeing an X-ray or rushes you to decide.

Why do implants need two trips?+

The implant has to fuse with the bone before the final crown is fitted, which usually takes three to six months.

How long do I stay in Istanbul?+

Usually about 5–7 days for veneers, crowns or smile design, and about 3–5 days for each implant visit.

Will my teeth be filed down?+

Only as much as the plan needs. Veneers often need little preparation; crowns need more and are reserved for teeth that need them. Ask for the plan for each tooth in writing.

Is there a fixed price?+

No. The quote is written after the dentist has reviewed your X-rays and photos, in euros. Flights are never included.

Will my US or Canadian insurance pay?+

Treatment abroad is usually not covered. Ask your dental plan or insurer directly before you book.

Can my dentist at home look after the work?+

Yes. Bring the written record of the treatment and materials so they can maintain your teeth at regular check-ups.

Do I need a visa?+

Check the requirements for your passport on evisa.gov.tr. Once your treatment is planned, the clinic confirms your appointment in writing.
