A second operation on the nose is more demanding than the first, for the patient and for the surgeon. Scar tissue, weakened cartilage and earlier changes all have to be taken into account. In this guide New City Clinic explains when revision is considered and what makes it different.
Why is a revision needed?
People seek revision for cosmetic reasons, such as a remaining hump, an over-reduced bridge, a drooping or pinched tip or asymmetry, and for functional ones, such as difficulty breathing after the first operation. Sometimes both are present. Not every concern needs surgery: small irregularities may improve as swelling settles or can occasionally be addressed without an operation.
Timing and assessment
Surgeons generally wait at least twelve months after the previous operation, because the nose is still changing until then and tissue needs to soften. The assessment includes an examination of the inside of the nose, photographs and, ideally, the report of the first operation. Your surgeon should tell you plainly what can be improved and what cannot. Realistic goals are the most important part of the plan.
How revision differs from a first operation
Revision is usually done with the open technique for a clear view. Cartilage is often needed to rebuild support; when the septum has already been used, it is taken from the ear or, for larger reconstructions, from a rib. The operation takes longer, swelling lasts longer and the result takes longer to settle. The risk of needing further surgery is higher than after a first rhinoplasty.
Revision rhinoplasty: cost in Turkey and what is included
The price depends on the technique, the extent of the procedure, the hospital, the length of stay and any procedures planned together, which is why a single figure quoted without an examination or photo assessment is misleading. After a physician has reviewed your case, New City Clinic sends you an itemised written quote. It lists hospital, surgeon and anaesthesia fees, pre-operative tests, medication, any compression garment or support bra, accommodation, airport–hotel–hospital transfers and interpreting separately; flights are not included unless stated. When comparing clinics in Istanbul, look beyond the price: check that the hospital is licensed by the Ministry of Health, what the surgeon specialises in, and how follow-up is handled once you are back home.

Frequently asked questions
How long should I wait before a revision?
At least a year in most cases. Operating earlier risks treating swelling that would have resolved on its own.
Will rib cartilage be needed?
Only when septal and ear cartilage are not enough. Your surgeon decides after examining you and will explain the options.
Is revision rhinoplasty more painful?
Not usually. Recovery feels similar, though swelling lasts longer. If rib cartilage is taken, the chest is sore for a few days.
Deciding on revision rhinoplasty is a confident step when it is taken with the right information and the right team. You can book a free consultation with the New City Clinic team for your questions.
