Surgery and Treatment in Turkey from Africa: 2026 Prices and the Treatment Journey
Istanbul has direct flights from many African capitals and major cities. New City Clinic is a health-tourism organisation authorised by the Turkish Ministry of Health: we arrange your treatment at licensed partner hospitals, where their specialist doctors treat you, and we organise the documents for your visa, your hotel, transfers and interpreting, from your first message to your follow-up at home.
Why patients from Africa choose Istanbul
Patients from West, East and Southern Africa come to Istanbul for very different reasons: body contouring and BBL, fibroid surgery that keeps the womb, IVF, a kidney transplant with a relative as donor, a second opinion on cancer, or a knee or hip replacement after years of pain. What they have in common is the wish to have the whole plan, the dates and the costs agreed in writing before they travel. The partner hospitals (Acıbadem, Medicana, Medipol, Medical Park, Biruni) are licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Health and treatment is given by their specialists. New City Clinic is registered with HealthTürkiye; it organises and coordinates your care but does not treat patients itself.

What a surgical package includes
The operation at a licensed partner hospital, your hospital stay, hotel accommodation, airport–hotel–hospital transfers, pre-operative tests and interpreting where specified, compression garments where needed and complication insurance. Flights are not included. The exact contents are listed in your written quote, so you can compare it line by line.
Women’s health and fertility
Fibroids are one of the most common reasons women from Africa contact us. When surgery is needed, fibroids inside the womb cavity can be removed through the cervix without an incision (hysteroscopic myomectomy), and fibroids in the wall of the womb through small incisions while the womb is kept (laparoscopic or robotic myomectomy); the stay is usually 1–2 nights in hospital and 5–7 days in Istanbul. IVF in Turkey is available only to married couples using their own eggs and sperm, as Turkish law requires: egg, sperm or embryo donation and surrogacy are not permitted. One IVF cycle usually means 10–14 days in Istanbul.
Kidney transplant and cancer care
For a kidney or liver transplant, international patients must come with their own living donor: by Turkish law the donor must be related by blood or marriage up to the fourth degree, proven with official documents, and donors who are not relatives need approval from the hospital’s ethics committee. New City Clinic does not provide donors. The whole kidney transplant process takes about 70 days in Istanbul. In oncology, the first step is a second opinion on your pathology report and scans, given before you travel; the hospital’s tumour board then proposes a plan. Neither transplantation nor cancer treatment is priced in advance.
Joints, spine and weight-loss surgery
Knee and hip replacements are planned from your standing X-rays, with 3–5 nights in hospital and 10–14 days in Istanbul in total. Spine surgery is planned after the surgeon has reviewed your MRI. Weight-loss surgery (gastric sleeve or bypass) is suitable with a BMI of 35 or more; between 30 and 35 an accompanying disease such as type 2 diabetes is required, and the surgeon decides after examination and tests. Hair transplants need about 3–4 days in Istanbul.
Travel, visa and documents
Check the visa or e-visa requirements for your passport on the official website of the Turkish government (evisa.gov.tr) before you book; for a transplant, check them for both recipient and donor. Once your treatment is planned, your appointment is confirmed in writing by the hospital. Send your reports in English; documents in other languages are translated where needed. Tell us early about any long-term condition, a blood disorder such as sickle cell disease, or a tendency to keloid scars, so that tests and the surgical plan take it into account. A companion can travel with you, and hotel and transfers can be arranged for them too.
How it works
Send your photos or reports and your questions on WhatsApp. A specialist reviews them free of charge and, for surgical packages, you usually receive a written quote within 24 hours; for transplant and cancer care the review of your documents takes longer. We then book the hospital, hotel and transfers, meet you at the airport and stay in touch after you are home, when your reports in English go to your doctor.
