Liposuction is often thought of as a quick procedure, and the operation itself usually is. The result, however, appears gradually as swelling goes down over weeks and months. In this guide New City Clinic explains what recovery looks like and what helps.
The first days
Expect swelling, bruising and a feeling like muscle soreness after exercise in the treated areas. Fluid tinged with blood may leak from the small incisions for a day or two; this is the infiltration fluid and is normal. You are encouraged to walk from the first day. Depending on the volume removed, you go home the same day or after one night, wearing a compression garment.
The compression garment and massage
The garment is worn day and night for about three to four weeks and during the day for a further two to three, taken off only to shower. It limits swelling and helps the skin settle evenly. Firmness and small lumps under the skin are common from the second week and soften with time. Lymphatic drainage massage is often recommended from the first or second week to speed this up.
When will you see the result?
You will notice a change early, then swelling can make the area look little different or even larger for a while. Around six weeks the contour becomes clearer; at three months most of the swelling has gone; the final result is judged at about six months. Numbness of the skin is temporary. A stable weight is what keeps the result, since remaining fat cells can still enlarge.
Liposuction: cost in Turkey and what is included
The price depends on the technique, the extent of the procedure, the hospital, the length of stay and any procedures planned together, which is why a single figure quoted without an examination or photo assessment is misleading. After a physician has reviewed your case, New City Clinic sends you an itemised written quote. It lists hospital, surgeon and anaesthesia fees, pre-operative tests, medication, any compression garment or support bra, accommodation, airport–hotel–hospital transfers and interpreting separately; flights are not included unless stated. When comparing clinics in Istanbul, look beyond the price: check that the hospital is licensed by the Ministry of Health, what the surgeon specialises in, and how follow-up is handled once you are back home.
