Gastric Sleeve and Bypass in Turkey for Patients from the USA and Canada
New City Clinic arranges weight-loss (bariatric) surgery for North American patients at licensed partner hospitals in Istanbul, where the hospital’s bariatric surgeons operate. We are a health-tourism organisation authorised by the Turkish Ministry of Health: we organise your assessment, hospital, hotel, transfers and interpretation, and we stay in touch after you go home.
Who is suitable for weight-loss surgery?
Weight-loss surgery is usually considered with a BMI of 35 or more, or a BMI of 30–35 with an associated disease such as type 2 diabetes. The surgeon decides after examination and tests. Your weight history, other illnesses, medication and previous operations are reviewed before any plan is made. Surgery is a tool that works together with lasting changes in eating and activity.
Gastric sleeve, gastric bypass or gastric balloon
In a gastric sleeve, a large part of the stomach is removed by keyhole surgery, leaving a narrow tube-shaped stomach. A gastric bypass makes a small stomach pouch and reroutes part of the small intestine. A gastric balloon is placed endoscopically under sedation, without incisions, and is removed later; it is not surgery. The surgeon recommends the option that fits your health and history.
Estimated 2026 price
The gastric sleeve package is estimated at €2,500. Packages are quoted in euros, not dollars. Gastric bypass and gastric balloon are quoted individually after the surgeon’s review. The final quote is given in writing after the physician’s assessment. Flights are not included.
What the package includes
Surgery at a licensed partner hospital, the hospital stay, hotel accommodation, airport–hotel–hospital transfers, pre-operative tests and interpretation where specified. Complication insurance is included in every package organised by New City Clinic; it is not an add-on. Its scope, limits and exclusions are given to you in writing with your quote and before surgery. The exact contents are listed in your written quote.
Days in Istanbul and the flight home
A gastric sleeve usually means 2–3 nights in hospital and 5–7 days in Istanbul; a gastric bypass 6–8 days; a gastric balloon 2–3 days. With a long flight back to North America, stay the full recommended period and fly only after your surgeon has cleared you. On the plane, walk regularly, keep sipping fluids as advised and wear compression stockings if you are told to.
Diet and follow-up after you return
After surgery you move step by step from liquids to purées and then to solid food, following the plan the dietitian gives you. Vitamin and mineral supplements may be recommended. Follow-up continues by video calls with the team, and your reports are provided in English so your doctor at home can follow you as well.
Insurance and your doctor at home
US and Canadian health insurers usually do not cover elective surgery abroad; ask your insurer before you travel. Tell your family doctor or primary care physician about your plans and share your reports after surgery. Complication insurance is included in every package organised by New City Clinic; it is not an add-on. Its scope, limits and exclusions are given to you in writing with your quote and before surgery.
How to start
Send your height, weight, age, any illnesses and medication on WhatsApp. A surgeon reviews them free of charge and you usually receive a written quote within 24 hours. Check the visa or e-visa requirements for your passport on the official website evisa.gov.tr before you book. Once your treatment is planned, the hospital confirms your appointment in writing.
