Cervical Cancer Treatment in Istanbul
Cervical cancer is largely linked to HPV infection and can be caught at the pre-cancer stage with regular smear and HPV screening. Treatment differs greatly by stage. New City Clinic coordinates assessment and treatment with the oncology, breast surgery and gynaecological oncology teams of its partner hospitals in Istanbul.
Assessment and diagnosis
Before a treatment plan is made, the type and stage of the disease are established. This usually involves:
- Smear and HPV test
- Colposcopy and biopsy
- Pelvic MRI for staging
- PET-CT or CT where needed
Treatment approaches
For pre-cancerous lesions and very early cancer, removing a cone of tissue from the cervix (conisation) may be enough. In early stages, radical hysterectomy with lymph node assessment is used; for selected young patients who wish to have children, a womb-sparing radical trachelectomy may be considered. In locally advanced disease, radiotherapy combined with drug treatment and internal radiotherapy (brachytherapy) is the main treatment.
- Conisation (pre-cancer and very early stage)
- Radical hysterectomy; radical trachelectomy in selected patients
- Radiotherapy with drug treatment and brachytherapy
- Systemic treatment in advanced disease
The tumour board decides which methods are used and in what order. The treatment plan is determined after a physician’s examination and assessment of your tests.

Frequently asked questions
Will I be able to have children after treatment?
In very early stages and suitable patients there are fertility-sparing options; the decision is made with the gynaecological oncology team according to stage and tumour features.
Can I have my follow-up at home?
Yes, a written follow-up plan is prepared and part of the check-ups can be done in your own country.
Which documents should I send?
The pathology report, CT/MRI/PET-CT reports and, if possible, the images themselves, operation and discharge reports, blood tests and your medication list.
Can you give any assurance about the outcome?
No. No institution can guarantee the result of cancer treatment. Your physician will explain expectations and risks for your situation openly.
How is the cost determined?
It depends on the tests required and on the type and length of treatment. An itemised written quote follows the physician’s assessment.
