Endometrial (Womb) Cancer Treatment in Istanbul
Endometrial cancer arises from the lining of the womb, most often shows itself as bleeding after the menopause and is usually found at an early stage. New City Clinic coordinates assessment and treatment with the oncology, breast surgery and gynaecological oncology teams of its partner hospitals in Istanbul.
Assessment and diagnosis
Before a treatment plan is made, the type and stage of the disease are established. This usually involves:
- Transvaginal ultrasound of the womb lining
- Endometrial biopsy or hysteroscopy
- Pelvic MRI and CT of chest and abdomen for staging
- Molecular classification of the tumour
Treatment approaches
The main treatment is keyhole (laparoscopic or robotic) removal of the womb and ovaries with sentinel lymph node assessment. Depending on the risk, vaginal brachytherapy, radiotherapy or drug treatment is added afterwards. Molecular classification helps tailor treatment. In very early disease, hormonal womb-sparing treatment may be considered for selected young patients who wish to have children.
- Laparoscopic or robotic hysterectomy with sentinel lymph nodes
- Vaginal brachytherapy or radiotherapy
- Drug treatment and immunotherapy according to risk
- Womb-sparing hormone treatment in selected young patients
The tumour board decides which methods are used and in what order. The treatment plan is determined after a physician’s examination and assessment of your tests.

Frequently asked questions
I have had bleeding after the menopause – what should I do?
Any bleeding after the menopause should be checked; it often has a benign cause, but an ultrasound and, where needed, a biopsy are necessary.
When can I fly after surgery?
After keyhole surgery usually within 7–10 days; your surgeon confirms the timing.
Which documents should I send?
The pathology report, CT/MRI/PET-CT reports and, if possible, the images themselves, operation and discharge reports, blood tests and your medication list.
Can you give any assurance about the outcome?
No. No institution can guarantee the result of cancer treatment. Your physician will explain expectations and risks for your situation openly.
How is the cost determined?
It depends on the tests required and on the type and length of treatment. An itemised written quote follows the physician’s assessment.
