Brain Tumour Treatment in Istanbul
There are many types of brain tumour, benign and malignant, and treatment differs greatly according to the type and location. New City Clinic coordinates assessment by the neurosurgery and oncology teams and your treatment at its partner hospitals in Istanbul.
Assessment and diagnosis
Before a treatment plan is made, the type and stage of the disease are established. This usually involves:
- Contrast-enhanced brain MRI and, where needed, advanced MRI studies
- Neurological examination
- Pathology and molecular analysis of tissue obtained by surgery or biopsy
- Joint review by neurosurgery, radiation oncology and medical oncology
Treatment approaches
For many tumours the first step is an operation that removes as much of the tumour as can be taken safely while protecting function. Radiotherapy and drug treatment are added according to the tumour type. Some small, slow-growing benign tumours can simply be monitored with regular MRI.
- Neurosurgery: microsurgery with neuronavigation
- Radiotherapy, including focused (stereotactic) radiotherapy for selected tumours
- Drug treatment according to the tumour type
The tumour board decides which methods are used and in what order. The treatment plan is determined after a physician’s examination and assessment of your tests.

Frequently asked questions
Is every brain tumour cancer?
No. A substantial share of brain tumours are benign, though they may still need treatment depending on where they are.
Can the whole tumour be removed?
It depends on its location and how close it is to important areas of the brain. The aim is to remove as much as is safe while protecting function.
Which documents should I send?
The pathology report, CT/MRI/PET-CT reports and, if possible, the images themselves, operation and discharge reports, blood tests and your medication list.
Can you give any assurance about the outcome?
No. No institution can guarantee the result of cancer treatment. Your physician will explain expectations and risks for your situation openly.
How is the cost determined?
It depends on the tests required and on the type and length of treatment. An itemised written quote follows the physician’s assessment.
