Stomach Cancer Treatment in Istanbul
In stomach cancer the treatment plan depends on where the tumour sits in the stomach and on its stage, and usually combines surgery with drug treatment. New City Clinic coordinates your assessment and treatment at its partner hospitals in Istanbul.
Assessment and diagnosis
Before a treatment plan is made, the type and stage of the disease are established. This usually involves:
- Endoscopy and biopsy
- CT of the chest and abdomen
- Endoscopic ultrasound and diagnostic laparoscopy where needed
- Pathology and molecular tests that guide the choice of treatment
Treatment approaches
Selected very early tumours can be removed endoscopically. Otherwise the main treatment is an operation removing part or all of the stomach with the surrounding lymph nodes; most patients also have drug treatment before and after surgery. In advanced disease, systemic treatments take the lead.
- Surgery: partial or total gastrectomy
- Chemotherapy before and after surgery
- In advanced disease, chemotherapy, targeted therapies and immunotherapy
The tumour board decides which methods are used and in what order. The treatment plan is determined after a physician’s examination and assessment of your tests.

Frequently asked questions
Does the whole stomach have to be removed?
No. Depending on the position of the tumour, part of the stomach can be preserved; your surgeon decides.
How do you eat after stomach surgery?
In small, frequent meals, with dietitian follow-up, and vitamin supplements such as B12 may be needed. Most patients adapt to the new pattern over time.
Which documents should I send?
The pathology report, CT/MRI/PET-CT reports and, if possible, the images themselves, operation and discharge reports, blood tests and your medication list.
Can you give any assurance about the outcome?
No. No institution can guarantee the result of cancer treatment. Your physician will explain expectations and risks for your situation openly.
How is the cost determined?
It depends on the tests required and on the type and length of treatment. An itemised written quote follows the physician’s assessment.
